In July this year the Queensland Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Kate Jones, announced a dingo ‘census’ on Fraser Island so that her department could ‘further fine-tune management strategies for a sustainable dingo population, while ensuring public safety’.

Fraser Island supports eco-tourism plans

The Fraser Island Association says it welcomes the Queensland Government's decision to allow eco-tourism at Fraser Island, so long as development is not too close to the township.

The Government is seeking expressions of interest from private investors to build eco-tourism accommodation in seven national parks, including Eurong on Fraser Island.

Fraser Island Association president David Anderson says an eco-tourism site should be supervised.
